News from GS1 Australia

Woolworths and Metcash Implement GS1 SmartMedia

GS1 SmartMedia has been implemented by Woolworths and Metcash to streamline the management of digital product content.

GS1 SmartMedia is the industry solution for managing and sharing images and product related digital assets with trading partners. The service was developed by GS1 Australia, at the request of industry, in collaboration with national retailers, suppliers and the Australian Food and Grocery Council (AFGC).

Woolworths

A recent Woolworths Trading Partners communication was released, announcing their support for accepting GS1 SmartMedia product images across all marketing platforms. The communication also advises that the use of GS1 SmartMedia and images captured by the GS1 Photography Service will be of significant benefit to their trading partners and that GS1 Australia is also offering significant price concessions.

Metcash New Digital Platform

As part of the Metcash transformation plan to deliver seamless multi-channel shopping with integrated local retailer execution, Metcash elected to implement GS1 SmartMedia as a sustainable approach to manage digital product content.

The Metcash vendor communication advises that GS1 SmartMedia is a key vehicle to provide Metcash with the digital product content required to deliver a great consumer experience on their new digital platforms. Metcash trading partners were also alerted to the GS1 Australia price concessions.
